Winona-Ryder
Winona Ryder (born Winona Laura Hornowitz) was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her Winona in honor of her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was from a Jewish family Ryder considers herself Jewish. Her half-siblings are younger, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder was born in the United States and moved with her family members to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. There was no electricity. Ryder was an avid reader and spent her time reading books as there was no television. Ryder started to take acting classes at American Conservatory Theatre when she reached the age of 12. She landed her debut role on the big screen in 1986, when she was 15 years older. Ryder suffered bullying in the high school. Ryder believed that if she became an actor, her bullying was going to be corrected. It didn't turn out. Still, she pursued her goal. Her breakthrough came in 1988 with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder went on to have numerous roles that were successful. Two Academy Awards were nominated, one for The Age of Innocence (1996).
